The 15th Modern Art International Fair, from June 1st to 4th, opens to multimedia creation, to new materials and supports and to digital techniques. A new avant-garde…

The art and new technologies will be more than ever well combined at the art Junction. Last year, the doors were opened for the first time to digital art. The edition 2001, which will take place from June 1st to 4th, at the exhibition centre of Nice Acropolis, is going a bit further. It will dedicate a large room to digital art. It will welcome among others Sylvie Déa, Sophia Lavaud, Muriel Toutelemonde, Cauwet, Digeon, Duval, Fred Forest, Paraschiv etc. This list starts to be quite exhaustive. In addition to the exhibition of digital works, the forum "Art and new technologies" will offer a series of colloquiums on the meeting between the art and these new technologies (multimedia creation, new materials and supports, digital techniques, etc). Fred Forest, untiring and unclassifiable pioneer for the creation on the Internet, and Sophie Lavaud will then lead a conference on the theme of the new forms of digital art. It is the occasion to describe the communication systems as works which have to be understood in their different aspects. According to Fred Forest, from Nice, the real stake or the current art is now well beyond the image and the form. It is created according to the relationship people have with the world, with what we commonly call reality.During these four days, the galleries present at the "Art Jonction" will exhibit the digital works of their artists. Thus the Slotine gallery, already announces the "digital-built avant-garde", presenting the work of Sylvie Déa. On the other side, the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis will exhibit the digital works of French and foreign artists at Valrose Castle. For this 15th edition of the "Art Jonction", which takes place again at the exhibition centre of Nice, a few figures: 80 international galleries will be present, 10,000 square metres for the exhibition's surface, 500 artists and 20,000 expected visitors. Figures are equal to the situation of the French Riviera, second market for the French art and cradle of the avant-gardes.Information and contacts- Inauguration on Thursday May 31st at 6.00 PM (by invitation)- "Art and New technologies forum" on Friday and Saturday at 5.00 PM.- Opened to the public from 12.00 to 20.00; entrance fee: 40F- Information by phone: 04 93 96 01 00 or on the websites www.art-jonction.com or www.officieldesarts.com
