Louise Moreau, 81, a Member of Parliament of the 8th district, former Mandelieu-la-Napoule mayor, died yesterday in an Paris hospital, following a long illness. This death represents the end of thirty years of regional history, as Louise Moreau has been continuously elected since 1971 (the Mandelieu mayor since 1971 to 1995 and Member of the Parliament since 1978). Mentioning this woman with a lot of character, Jacques Médecin, the former Nice mayor, and the former president of the Council of the department, said by fits and starts that she was the only politician of the department.Since André Charles-Blanc, the Théoule mayor, committed suicide in November 1998, Louise Moreau had no substitute for the deputation. Partial elections should occur in the 8th district by a three months period (after the municipal and cantonal elections of March 11th and 18th 2001). An unexpected ballot which shakes up the political game and might aggravate even more the divisions of the right wing in the Cannes area.
