Nortel will lost 20.000 supplementary posts !

The Canadian manufacturer, which has already reduced the staffs and which is reorganizing its sites in France, relies now on an international staff of 45.000 people (90.000 in the beginning of the year).

When will the collapse of Nortel stop ? The Canadian manufacturer which had already decided in the beginning of the year to loose 30.000 jobs over near 95.000 in the world, will loose 20.000 supplementary posts, it was announced yesterday (see Boursorama Nortel compte pratiquer des réductions d'effectifs supplémentaires). This announce has been done during the presentation of results of the third quarter 2001 which states a net loss of $910 million for a turnover of $3.5 billion.In a press release published yesterday, the group has indicated that it relied “on a staff of 45.000 people. And this after new staff reductions and the sell of non-vital sectors. Calculations have been quickly done: with the loss of 30.000 posts decided in two waves (20.000 in the beginning of the year and then 10.000 in June), Nortel’s staff was down to 64.000. It means that near 20.000 posts will be cancelled. A spokesman of the group should confirm that 10.000 jobs would be cancelled at Nortel and that 10.000 other posts cancellations would result from the sell of assets.Such layoffs are likely to happen in the end of October. Such prospects are very dark for the future of Nortel’s site in Sophia Antipolis for which has been decided the partial or total closure, even before this new reorganization wave.
