Corsica-Ferries launched its first Méga-Express

The first Méga-Express, the answer of Corsica Ferries to the NGV 3 of the SNCM (Société Nationale Corse Méditérranée) was launched. Whereas the SNCM made the bet of speed with a boat that can carry 1.100 passengers at 43 nodes (almost 80km an hour), Corsica Ferries made a compromise with a new generation of ferries that bring together a lower speed but a bigger number of passengers. Thus, the new Méga-Express could carry almost 1.800 passengers and 500 vehicles. With the renewing of the concession of the public sector between Corsica and the continent, in January 2002, the struggle is likely to be hard as early as this year, in the shipping sector.
