Employment: 30% of jobs cut at Thales Microsonics Sophia
The impact of the reorganisation plan of Thales’ telecom pole became more obvious for Thales Microsonics at Sophia (see article of October 12th “"Sophia: Thales Microsonics hit by a reorganisation plan"). It is quite important. In terms of employment, it will entail 110 redundancies out of 385 employees (over 30%). However, the site will benefit from the transfer of the production line of Argentré, in Brittany, which will bring 20 jobs but won’t compensate the loss of 110 jobs. The management of Thales has also mentioned that some of the employees whose position will be withdrawn, can be redeployed to another subsidiary of the group established at Sophia. Thales Underwater Systems (ex-Thomson Marconi Sonar), specialized in sonar and associated systems for naval and air forces, works in a domain (military among others) which keeps on expanding.
